Mel Burton, master of the Six String Bass and Funk, winner of Sacramento’s “Sounds of Soul” award in 2001 with Got Soul and then runner up in 2002 with Nuance, has returned to Sacramento from the stages of New Orleans with his explosive talent.
Mel has played formerly with The Q, New Concept, Nothin’ Personal and VooDoo Funk & Soul Company of New Orleans, LA. While in Louisiana, Mel worked with one of R&B’s greatest legends, Harold Brown - drummer for the award winning WAR. Mel has played in New Orleans venues which include SouthPort Hall, Wall Street Tap Room, Ruby’s Road House, Columbia Tap Room, Pelican Athletic Club, Daiquiris & Creams, Benedict’s and numerous festivals and private functions.
Born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA, Mel was influenced by such greats as George Benson, Verdine White of Earth Wind and Fire, Stanley Clark, Marcus Miller and many other R&B Funk legends. Mel has mesmerized local audiences at ARCO Arena, California State Fair Main Stage, Marilyn’s, Power House Pub, The Delta Queen & King, PJ’s, Constable Jack’s, Jazzmen’s, Long Beach Convention Center as well as many other venues nationwide.
He brings a high-impact energy to the stage that very few Bass players can. His presence is truly unforgettable.
